I enjoyed a resplendent vegetarian buffet here on a quiet Saturday afternoon. Some pros to this place include the variety of options, ranging from sweet to savory. This included different types of noodles (chow mein, chow fun, fried rice) and vegetarian fish/chicken/tofu dishes. I also enjoyed the fresh vegetables, from gai lan to veggie beef and broccoli. They also had tasty spring rolls, both fried and wrapped, sushi, and more. The dessert options included red bean soup, soy milk, and mini egg yolk buns. The staff generously also brought out fresh fried spring rolls when asked, which was a nice touch. Parking can be difficult on the weekends, but that is typical for Bellaire. The restroom was also clean which was a nice touch. Overall, I would recommend this place for anyone looking for their vegetarian fix!
I've heard of this place many times, and recently I stopped to eat dinner here, opting for a more healthy buffet. First thing to note is that there was a big sign at the entrance stating they will stop serving the buffet January 31, so if you want to try it, try it soon. The buffet is not super big, but it has enough selection to keep one satisfied. I was a little skeptical, as a meat eater, but I was pleasantly surprised! There was a lot of texture and flavors going on, that I didn't miss the meat! My favorite item, was the dumplings, which its spot sat empty until I was finished with my meal, but I just had to taste it when it was replenished! My only real negative was that some items sat too long in the pan and hardened, like the fried rice and noodles. The edge of the pans contained dried up hardened bits that were not pleasant. A bit more sporadic mixing can prevent this. Also $20 seemed a bit steep for a dinner buffet with no meat, but it was still worth it. The owners seem super nice and are known by their regulars.
Love the food when fresh and hot, but space between tables is too tight and uncomfortable
This is our favorite restaurant! My wife who is Chinese and knows authentic Chinese food, loves this restaurant for its authentic, healthy and fun dishes. She says, "Just like Mom used to make!" She loves the mushroom dishes, steamed buns, radish cakes, lotus roots, and home-like soups, which are made with quality ingredients and care." As a white guy, I didn't grow up eating this food but have found this to be my favorite restaurant.
Pine Forest Garden is a hidden gem for incredible vegetarian cuisine! Even as a non-vegan, I keep coming back for Sammy's masterfully crafted dishes--unique, flavorful, and surprisingly healthy. With over 30 years of experience, he's perfected the art of vegetarian cooking. The buffet-style setup lets you sample a variety of his creations, making every visit an adventure. Give it a try--you won't be disappointed!
